Advance Notice: 20Spec Anthology
Right now, Erika and I are pouring our energy into launching Rigor Amortis. However, we do have other projects on the table, and will be opening submissions again, soon. I’m posting the guidelines here, but please do not submit until October 11. I’m working on building a website so that the info will be more readily available, so the submission address will be different, as well.
However, if you’d like to start working on something, here’s the next thing on the horizon!
*EDIT* An Australian press is already doing a similarly-themed and titled collection. Therefore, we will be working with the title 20Spec for the time being.
20Spec: Speculative Tales of the Roaring 20’s.
Speculative stories set in the grit and glamor of the Roaring 20s. Fantasy, Science-Fiction and Horror, including Bizarro, Slipstream, New Weird, Hard-Boiled Noir detectives, etc. We’re looking for stories about such things as gangsters, the Klan, social and political upheaval, speakeasies, “The Diamonds as Big as the Ritz.” Tell stories that take place after dark, far from home, in abandoned stills. Don’t be afraid to travel abroad, either. Europe, Asia, Africa, anywhere is fair game!
Critter fiction (e.g. vampires, zombies, werewolves, ghosts, etc) is acceptable, but will be a tougher sell. Attention to the culture, slang, and feel of the 20s is vital. Here are some links to get you started:
We’re looking for stories from 1500-5000 words, primarily. We will consider a few pieces of flash-fiction and poetry as well, although these will be a much harder sell. Submissions will be open from October 11 to November 30.
We are currently shopping publishers, and guidelines will be updated with further details when we have them.
Enjoy! And remember: submissions are NOT open. Any submissions received before October 11 will be deleted, unread.
*edit* Forgot to tell you about the other two anthologies!
The Sword and Sorcery anthology will open in early January. The next weird erotica one should open in March or April. Erika and I need to read something other than erotica!
